About Me

I live in a small poke town within an hour of the California coast where there are more vineyards than people with my husband and three children and various pets. James Dean's tree is within walking distance and the James Brothers were also known to ride these hills. I was born to the son of Lutheran missionaries and the daughter of Catholic hypocrites. I'm a Zionist. I was born and raised in California where liberal ideas become gods, and conservative ideals are evil. Unfortunately, it's illegal to have morals in California. I'm one of the evil ones. I take my frustrations out on my houseplants, all 300+ of them.

Hi Katie,
I had a lot of fun finding the savory ones just for you.

Thanks, R! :)

My mom is all fired up to try them, too. DH is not as thrilled, unfortunately. He's picky like that.

Let me know how it goes, I'll have to live recklessly through you ;) DH did not take too well to the idea of savory cheesecake. I was looking for cheesecake recipes and he got all excited about the prospect of a one. When I mentioned savory his face fell. lol "Cheesecake is supposed to be sweet," he says.

How'd the yogurt cheesemaking go?

I have made multiple batches of yo-cheese, always using store-bought whole cow's milk yogurt. I usually make it middle eastern style, with garlic, lemon juice and cumin, and I LOVE it. I will make it for years to come!

You know, I heard tell of using powdered milk sprays for scale. It just came to mind that while dripping cheese, there is a lot of milky stuff which is still in the whey. I wonder how it would be to use the whey as a bug spray. Off to research!

Oh and concrats on the cheese, next try making your own with a little store bought as a culture and whole milk. It's a lot cheaper in the long run. DD and I just stuck our jars in the fish tank and sure enough, in a day I had yogurt! Tried it on the heater register and got cottage cheese though :S
